Free Coupon (Digital Camera Required)
A friend of mine sent a picture of a billboard found in New York City. I’d be the first to admit that doesn’t exactly sound all that exciting (perhaps making it not the best opening line for a blog entry). So I’m glad you’ve stuck with me this far (it’s about to get better, I promise).
What was so cool about this particular billboard (and what made it appropriate that it was shared with me as a photograph) was that the billboard was a coupon. No, not just a billboard that looked like a coupon, but a genuine coupon. And here’s the punch line: The way you redeem this particular coupon is by taking a picture of it and then taking it into the business establishment. In this case it was a gym offering a free guest pass, but it could have been anything.
Clearly this is clever. I’m sure it has been done before, but this is the first time I’ve seen it. It’s a cool concept.
Of course, from my perspective, what’s more cool about it is that it incorporates photography as part of the promotion. You actually need to take a picture in order to redeem the coupon. I think that’s very cool indeed, and indicative (yet again) of just how much digital photography has revolutionized our lives. And something tells me the best is yet to come.
By the way, if there’s a Crunch gym (www.crunch.com) near you (or near a place you’ll be visiting) and you want to take advantage of this coupon, feel free to steal the photo included with this blog post.
